As the embodiment of the sun, the hummingbird radiates with the warmth of dawn. Its wings are rays of sunlight, cascading outwards from the core representing a new day full of hope and strength. The hummingbird looks towards the bright future ahead.

DAWN Canada’s logo prominently features the hummingbird, symbolizing resilience across diverse cultures.
- Among the First Nations people of the Canadian Pacific Coast, it embodies beauty, intelligence and love, and is seen as a messenger of joy.
- In Aztec mythology, the hummingbird carries profound symbolism as it was believed that fallen warriors were reborn as these delicate creatures. Moreover, the name of the Aztec god of war, Huītzilōpōchtli, finds its roots in the Nahuatl word for hummingbird, huitzilin.
- Wangari Maathai’s story “I Will Be a Hummingbird” exemplifies this symbolism by narrating the tale of a tiny hummingbird bravely carrying small drops of water in her beak to extinguish a forest fire, responding with determination to larger animals questioning her ability to make a difference despite her size, “I am doing the best I can.”
