It's National AccessAbility Week 2023! For NAAW this year, DAWN Canada has chosen to focus on the Government of Canada’s commitment and massive investments in a Canada-wide Early Learning and Child Care Plan that promises to be affordable, inclusive and accessible. It sounds promising, but what will that mean for mothers and parents living with disabilities and for children living with disabilities?
 
Currently, Bill C35 is moving through the system and promises a human rights framework that includes everyone. Where is the leadership to ensure that the “A” in “accessability” is actually going to be applied? Our community has not been engaged and we are being left behind instead of being centred. Women with disabilities who are single parents have the highest rates of poverty and unemployment.
 
Throughout this week, we will be sharing blogs, key facts and important info about this very urgent national AccessAbility issue.
