DAWN Canada Receives Federal Funding to Continue to Combat Gender-Based Violence
DAWN Canada is honored to receive funding from the Government of Canada as part of a broader initiative to combat gender-based violence. This support is an important step towards addressing the unique barriers that women and gender-diverse people with disabilities face, which are often overlooked in mainstream approaches to gender-based violence.
Our project, Root Change: Addressing the Systemic Nature of Gender-Based Violence and ‘Rooting Change’ across the Peer Support Continuum, aims to examine and enhance peer support models for women, girls, and gender-diverse people with disabilities who are survivors or at risk of gender-based violence. By filling gaps in understanding the challenges and opportunities around sustainable peer support networks, this initiative will improve how peer support is integrated as a policy and program tool within disability, women’s, and feminist GBV organizations.
This funding is a valuable contribution to our work, but there is still much more to be done. DAWN Canada’s mission is to end the poverty, isolation, discrimination, and violence experienced by women and gender-diverse people with disabilities, including those who are Deaf. We remain committed to advocating for systemic change that centers inclusion, accessibility, and the voices of those most impacted by gender-based violence.
Stay tuned for updates on our work and how you can get involved in supporting this important effort.
