The DisAbled Women’s Network (DAWN) / Réseau d'action de femmes handicapées (RAFH) Canada is a national cross-disability feminist organization serving women with disabilities and Deaf women in Canada for more than 30 years. DAWN has a mandate to represent the concerns of disAbled women and girls to a range of stakeholders at the Federal, Provincial/Territorial and Municipal levels. DAWN Canada's vision is to end the poverty, isolation, discrimination and violence experienced by women with disabilities and Deaf women and to ensure that they get the services and supports that they need.

 

EDUCATION PROGRAM ASSISTANT (YOUTH)

 

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As an Education Program Assistant (Youth), you will support the Director of Youth Initiatives and International Relations in their summer tasks in both official languages:

 

  • Assist with the preparation and collection of data for needs assessment consultations of girls with disabilities and / or Deaf girls
  • Participate in planning for accessibility and inclusion of girls with disabilities and / or Deaf girls for a summer camp for girls ages 9 to 13
  • Support youth participation and inclusion in activities
  • Respond to questions / needs of girls with disabilities and / or Deaf girls who participate in consultations and summer camp, as needed
  • Assist in planning and administering youth programs more generally
  • Support the writing of reports and other information documents
  • Help maintain and update youth project files
  • Research programs for girls (school and extracurricular) and update our list of potential partners
  • Perform other related tasks

 

ELIGIBILITY

 

To apply, you must be

  • Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  • A Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Relevant work experience with children, especially with girls with disabilities and / or Deaf girls
  • Relevant experience in the field of disability and / or the women's rights / feminism sector
  • Specific experience with girls living with intellectual disabilities and / or on the autism spectrum is an asset
  • Studies in the field of education or special education, leisure, social work, are assets
  • Experience in the community sector is an asset

 

SKILLS

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent work skills with girls from 9 to 13-years-old
  • To be able to work in a team and develop a good spirit of collaboration
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and great ability to follow up on files
  • Functional bilingualism (French / English)

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Schedule: 4 days a week
  • Contract length : 8 weeks
  • Weekly salary: $ 438
