Are you a change maker?

Are you a woman or gender-diverse individual who is passionate about disability justice and human rights? Do you want to speak truth to power? Then we would love to meet you.

Call for Nominations to DAWN Canada’s Board of Directors

DisAbled Women’s Network of Canada (DAWN) is a feminist cross-disability human rights organization that works to address systems of oppression.

We are looking to recruit talented women and gender-diverse people who identify as disabled or Deaf to join our Board of Directors. Currently, we are looking for board members from Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia AND New Brunswick. We welcome all qualified candidates with special interest in the perspectives of Black, Indigenous and/or 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals.

What is the role of board members?

The role of board members is to provide strategic counsel and guidance to the CEO, govern and manage the affairs of the Corporation including financial management of the organization, and support the DAWN team as we celebrate our 40th year in service!

Why does it matter?

In Canada, 30% of women and girls between 18 and 65 live with a disability. For Indigenous and Black women, and older women, that rate is above 35%. Women and girls make up 80% of people living with autoimmune diseases and 69% of people living with a rare disease. Women with disabilities are twice as likely as those who do not have a disability to be the victim of violent crime. The risk of women with disabilities experiencing violence increases if they are young, racialized, Indigenous, 2SLGBTQIA+, immigrant, migrant workings, non-status migrants or rural.

How to apply to join DAWN Canada’s Board of Directors?

We encourage applications from women and gender minorities who are active leaders in their community, who are passionate about social justice, and who understand and advocate for the lived realities of women with disabilities and Deaf women in Canada.

If you would like to apply, please send us an email at board@dawncanada.net by September 15, 2025. This is an open call for individuals to submit a resume or biography and statement of interest.
